The Paris Art Center offers a full line of
classes and workshops are offered throughout the year for individuals whose
interest and skill levels vary from beginners to advanced; and, whose ages range
from children age 4 through adult.
A Registration Form is available for printout. Please fill out a form for each child and return completed forms to the Bicentennial Art Center, 132
South Central Avenue, Paris, IL 61944, by mail or in person. Payment
must be made at the time of registration. No registration
is complete until all fees are paid. Payment may be made in cash or
by check made payable to: Paris Art Center. Registration forms must
include the signature of the parent or guardian. For more information,
call the Art Center at 217-466-8130 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.,
Tuesday through Friday, or contact the Art Center by e-mail at parisartcenter@verizon.net.
Please have your child wear old clothes or bring a paint shirt to protect their clothing from stains and spills.
1. Jewelry
Class Grades 3rd - 7th
Dates:
Tuesday thru Friday, June 8, 9, 10 and 11
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Instructor: Jordana Wright
Cost: $25.00 Member/$28.00 Non-Member
Students will design and create jewelry featuring a variety of materials and styles. Each student can choose to create several simple pieces or one elaborate piece.

2. Pop-Up Cards
Grades 2nd - 5th
Dates: Tuesday thru Friday, June 15, 16, 17 and 18

Make your cards extra special this year with fun pop-up art. Each card will have a unique pop-up creature jump out at you when you open it up.

3. Beads and Braids Grades 2nd - 5th
Dates: Tuesday thru Friday, June 15, 16, 17 and 18
Time: 10:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

Not just your average braid. You will learn new twists and knots to make fun friendship bracelets, key chains and anything you can imagine.

4. Being Green Grades K - 3rd

Let's be green this year. We'll be learning how to use ordinary newspaper to create works of art; exploring the possibilities with beadmaking and pictures.

5. Paper Making Grades 2nd - 5th

Ever wonder how paper is made? Well, we'll find out in this class. Students will learn the process of how paper is made and be able to create their own kinds of unique paper to take home.

6. Basic Photography Grades 3rd - 7th

Times: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.

This class will focus on basic skills and techniques in Digital Photography. Students will learn to take better photos with lessons in camera settings, composition, and style. Bring your own digital camera (point-and-shoot or SLR).
*If students wish to learn additional techniques in photography, an Intermediate Photography Class is also offered (see class number 10 below).

8. At the Zoo Grades K - 3rd
Dates: Tuesday thru Friday, July 6, 7, 8, and 9
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

What's at the Zoo? Children will work as a class to fill the zoo with their favorite animals while using new media each day. We will discuss and learn the unique and diverse characteristics of our creatures through story time, drawing and coloring.

9. Advanced Drawing Grades 6th and Up
Dates: Tuesday
thru Friday, July 6, 7, 8 and 9
Time: 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Instructor: Maria Brothers
Cost: $25.00 Member/$28.00 Non-Member
All forms of drawing begin with lines and mark-making. This is an advanced drawing course for individuals, grades 6th and up, who love to draw. Students will be introduced to new techniques, skills and ways to develope new ideas for cohesive drawing. This class will also encourage a wide array of media such as ink, charcoal, graphite, and pastel. A sketchbook will be provided for each student.
*If students wish to achieve further skills in drawing, such as learning to draw portraits and people from life, an additional drawing course is also offered (see class number 13 below).
*For those students who've enjoyed working in pastels, an additional class in this media is also offered (see class number 18 below).
*For students who also wish to develope their painting skills, two introductory painting classes are also offered (see classes number 15 and 17 below).

10. Intermediate Photography Grades 3rd - 7th

Building on the lessons of the Basic Photography Class, students will explore portraiture, abstraction, light and shadow, and landscapes. Students with some understanding of photography are welcome; however, the Basic Photography Class is not a prerequisite. Bring your own digital camera (point-and-shoot or SLR).
